Izak Smit

Izak Smit

Izak Smit is an educator, e-learning specialist and educational technology administrator at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town, South Africa. He joined higher education in 1982 and taught structural engineering and later construction and project management. In 1997 he got actively involved in the use of educational technology in his teaching. He presented many papers on national and international conferences on the use of educational technology and learner analytics.

He is currently holding the position of Director of the Centre for Innovative Education Technology at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.  The special focus of this academic support unit is to assist teaching academics of the correct pedagogical way to teach, using various types and kinds of educational technologies. The unit start the path to blended learning from the curriculum development stage through the design of blended learning and the measurement of all this through well-defined and developed analytical reports.

His special interest is in learner and learning Analytics. Students at risk needs to be supported to change their chances of success and to enable this learner analytics needs to be used to identify students at risk as soon as possible. Measuring the way students learn can assist academics to deliver a well-rounded and qualified entrant to the place of work.
